I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. – Psalm 119:11
God wants us to memorize scripture. He wants us to delight in his word and meditate on it day and night (Psalm 1:2). But memorizing is hard work. Surely it’s for people with better brains or more discipline than us.
There are many excellent methods for memorizing scripture, but singing must surely be the easiest. Each of us can personally testify to the power of music to help us memorize words. We can recite the words to hundreds of popular songs, though we often wish we could forget them! And we know the words to countless Christian songs and hymns.
Scripture memory songs, however, haven’t always been very popular. True, our kids may have memorized some scripture songs, but when was the last time you told a friend about that awesome scripture memory song you just learned? Most recordings haven’t matched industry standards. Plus, who would really want to sing the verse reference or have that annoying melody stuck in their head?
Thankfully, there are a growing number of artists who are putting God’s word to song in compelling ways.
This website is designed to help you find them. It contains songs from a variety of artists organized by verse and topic. You can find songs from a particular book of the Bible you’re studying or search by topic to find songs that correspond to your particular fight of faith. We hope that over time it will become a repository of songs containing the work of hundreds of churches and individuals, and that the quality and diversity of contributions will rise as more people participate in writing songs.
Search around the site. Give us your feedback. And join us in praying that God continue to raise up more and more musicians to record songs, and that the church will use these songs to meditate on his word day and night.
